Safety
Some of this is not for reading about.
This page is short on purpose. If you recognise something on it, stop and get it looked at.
Emergency, now
- One-sided facial weakness or drooping, sudden numbness, slurred speech, sudden vision change, or a sudden severe headache. Contact emergency services immediately.
- Fainting, chest pain or breathlessness, including in or after a sauna or steam room.
Appointment, not reflection
- A new lump or growth anywhere on the face, head or neck.
- A mole or mark changing in size, shape or colour, or one that itches, bleeds or crusts.
- A sore, scab or ulcer that has not healed within a few weeks.
- Swelling, heat, pain, redness or discharge after any injection, procedure or surgery.
- A face or body that has changed quickly rather than gradually, or unintended weight loss.
- Anything sharp, escalating, radiating, neurological, breathing-related or otherwise unexplained.
This site cannot tell you what any of those are, and it will not reassure you about them. Neither will the AI guide.
When it has stopped being about the mark
If how you look has become preoccupying — checking repeatedly, avoiding mirrors, photographs or people, or turning down things you would otherwise do — that is worth talking to a professional about. It is common, it is treatable, and it has nothing to do with vanity.
If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, contact your local emergency services or a crisis line now.
Heat
Heat is not safe for everybody. A heart condition, blood pressure, medication affecting either, pregnancy, and drinking or recently stopping drinking all make a sauna or steam room a risk rather than a help.
