The ageing face
Deeper, or somewhere it never used to be.
Most men describe their face as deeper. Some, looking properly, find something stranger: a line that is not where it was. Same face, same laugh, different place, different angle.
Ageing Guide is a place to be precise about what you are actually looking at. It does not tell you what anything is, why it is happening, or what to do about it. It will not give you a technique, and it gives you nothing at all to do to your face.
Before you read on
This is not a medical service, a skin service, an aesthetic practice or a diagnosis tool. A new lump, a mole or mark that is changing, a sore that does not heal, bleeding or crusting, one-sided weakness or drooping, sudden numbness or vision change, or swelling after a procedure all need looking at by somebody qualified, now, rather than thinking about here.
Two kinds of mark
Horizontal lines are expression. They run across the movement that makes them, they are built by doing the same face for thirty years, and most men can place where they came from. Frowning. Squinting. Laughing.
Vertical folds are the ones men cannot place, because nothing they do with their face makes that shape. They run along the line of a pull rather than across a movement. And men rarely say creased about them. They say shrunk.
That is a way of looking, not an explanation. This site does not tell you what is happening in your face or why, and anything you want identified needs somebody qualified to look at it.
Start where you are
You may be here because:
- Something in your face has changed and deeper is not quite the right word for it.
- You look tired in photographs on days when you are not tired.
- You have got smaller and softer and could not say when it happened.
- You have started standing out of the way when a camera comes out.
You do not have to decide what it means before you begin. Start with a plain description of what is different.
The face is last
If you came here wanting to start with your face, you are starting at the wrong end. In James's own case the face was last and remains last. He gave it almost no attention for fifty years.
A model told him years ago never to touch the thin skin around the eyes. He never did, and he says he can now see why she said it. That is somebody else's knowledge, carried because it was right, and it is repeated here as a boundary rather than as the beginning of a technique.
This site does not give you anything to do to your face. Not gently, not carefully, not as an experiment. That boundary has no exceptions.
James's starting point
James first noticed ageing in himself at twenty-six and did nothing about it for twenty-four years. He says he did enough, for most of his life, to attract what was achievable.
He has two lines on each cheek. They were laughter lines, fixed at roughly ninety degrees. He describes them now as running at nearly a hundred and eighty — moved and turned rather than deepened where they were. His eye bags, he says, released first. He describes being able to feel something underneath, and his own word for it is that it crunches.
A personal account, not an instruction and not a prediction. Nothing here identifies anatomy, explains a cause, or describes something for you to try on your own face.
Heat
Warmth makes a body easier to move than it is cold. A hot shower, a bath, a sauna, a steam room, water jets. It is the cheapest thing a man can reach and it is worth saying out loud.
It is also not safe for everybody, and James lives permanently in a warm, humid place, which is the largest thing he cannot separate out from anything else he did.
Keeping what you notice
A face changes too slowly to remember accurately. What you wrote down this month is only worth anything if it is still there next to what you write down next year.
Membership is one annual payment covering the whole network. It gives you a private console that keeps your observations, lets you return to them, and lets you export or delete everything whenever you choose. There is no monthly option and no advertising anywhere in the network.
Talk it through
The chat is an AI guide, not James replying live and not a clinician. It can help you say precisely what has changed. It cannot tell you what anything is, why it is happening, what will happen next, or how you look.
